Aunque mi lista de fotógrafos favoritos está encabezada por Elliott Erwitt, hay otros que le siguen muy de cerca. Es el caso de Helmut Newton.
Es muy diferente a Erwitt, pero dentro de su especialidad para mi es el mejor aunque Bettina Rheims anda al acecho.
Recomiendo la lectura de su autobiografía. A mi me pareció fascinante. Os dejo un pequeño texto elegido al azar.
…París, 1974; “Es noche cerrada y estoy sacando fotos en la Place du Palais Bourbon, delante mismo del estudio del Vogue. ¿Para qué complicarse la vida, si uno tiene una placita tan magnífica ante su misma puerta? Por la noche, como otros tantos sitios, adquiere una magia especial. me encanta sacar fotos de noche. A menudo, cuando viajo y me encuentro con exteriores que me decepcionan, opto por fotografiarlos de noche. Todo se vuelve más misterioso, y la fealdad queda escondida. El primer carrete que fotografié. a la edad de doce años, lo gasté en el metro de Berlín. No sé qué me llevó a hacerlo, y por su puesto no salió nada en la película, pero no tardé en aprender que las fotos nocturnas eran posibles. siempre hay mucha más luz de la que uno se imagina; tanta que existe un peligro de sobreexposición.”
